Kirsty Darlington (22) is a qualified Sports
Injury, Exercise & Massage Therapist. She
graduated from Hull University in 2007. Upon
finishing university Kirsty decided to go down
the self employment route and start her own
business. At the time Kirsty was working as
a personal trainer with Fitness First in Hull
and it was here she received the opportunity
to use a room at the gym for her therapy sessions.
The
biggest challenge for Kirsty when setting up
her business was finding the finance she needed
to get the business off the ground. Kirsty approached
the Youth Enterprise Bank for funding assistance
for her business idea. The Youth Enterprise
Bank helped Kirsty buy an ultra sound machine
which is a vital part of her sports therapy
business.
Kirsty
states: "If I didn't receive
the funding support from Youth Enterprise I would
not have started my sports therapy business. I
would encourage other young people who are interested
in setting up in business to take the leap. If
you have the ability and passion to start your
own business, what’s stopping you? You really
have to push yourself, take risks and weigh up
the pro's & con's of your decision before
you start, but the rewards of being your own boss
are great".
Kirsty
has big plans for the future of her business.
She has already developed a strong client base
which includes the Doncaster Belles ladies football
team who are in the FA Premier league.
Kirsty adds: "Over the next
5 years I want to move further into sports rehab
working with more sports teams, fitness fanatics
and people referred from hospitals & GP's".
